Plot summary
The film opens on a Thanksgiving in November 1968, where the children of the family show off their talents and young Eddie shocks the relatives with a rude joke. Eddie Murphy then takes the stage before a live audience and describes the anger his earlier celebrity parodies provoked, a scolding phone call from Bill Cosby, and the advice Richard Pryor gave him about what matters in comedy. A long stretch on dating and marriage follows, along with his mother's promise of a hamburger better than McDonald's, which arrives with green peppers on Wonder Bread. He mocks the way white people dance, describes a fight in a discotheque that grows into a brawl, and imitates his stepfather.
