Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Nawazuddin Siddiqui's ten-minute monologue as Ramanna had to be shot from several angles without him moving, so he ended up speaking the lines for 300 minutes in the same position; after the shoot he blacked out and could not talk for some time.
- The film is based on Raman Raghav, a serial killer who bludgeoned homeless people in Mumbai in the late 1960s and confessed to 41 murders. Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, he had his death sentence changed to life imprisonment and died of kidney failure in Yerawada Central Jail in 1988 after 19 years inside.
- One scene was shot inside the restricted area of Mumbai's airport, which is guarded by snipers under orders to shoot any infiltrator, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui told not to move from his position.
- Vicky Kaushal's cop Raghav is shown snorting cocaine throughout the film; the crew faked the powder with the Indian energy drink Glucon-D and corn starch, and Kaushal practised inhaling it for his scenes.
- Anurag Kashyap wanted to make a period film about Raman Raghav, but after the 2015 commercial failure of his 1960s-set Bombay Velvet he could not find financing, so he abandoned the period concept and co-wrote the film with Vasan Bala set in the present day.
- While shooting in unhygienic surroundings, Nawazuddin Siddiqui fell ill and was hospitalised for five days, initially diagnosed with dengue; his wife said he kept repeating his film dialogues while semi-conscious in bed.
- Vicky Kaushal was given two scenes and five days to prepare for his audition as Raghav; he locked himself in a room and cut himself off from phone, internet and newspapers, then got the part.
