Plot summary
Valerie Taylor is an Australian diver, cinematographer and conservationist who has spent her life in the water. She began as a teenage spearfishing champion, and her marriage to Ron Taylor took her into underwater filming, where she served as his model before the two became documentary makers. A single expedition turned the couple from spearfishing champions into makers of underwater films, and they traveled the world with cameras to record sharks at close range. When Jaws branded the animals as man-eaters, the Taylors argued the opposite, shooting footage of real sharks for the film and studying them first-hand. Valerie wore a chainmail suit and put herself in the water as bait, work that changed scientific understanding of sharks.
