Plot summary
Maury Dann sings country-western songs and rides through the South in a Cadillac, with his band, his entourage and Mayleen, his girlfriend, along for the tour. One night he plays a small club, then slips away with Sandy, a young woman he met backstage. The band moves on to a motel, bringing Rosamond from the show with them. Maury visits his invalid mother, then goes hunting with men from the band, and a quarrel over the care of his dog Snapper turns into a fistfight with Bob Tally. Maury gives the dog away and drops Bob from the band. At a radio station he promotes his new album and hands a DJ liquor to keep his records on the air. On the road he seduces Rosamond, to Mayleen's dismay.
