Plot summary
The spring of 1936 finds Paris unsettled. Many worry about Germany, where the Third Reich is gaining strength, and Léon Blum, a leftist candidate backed by unions, has been voted into power while organized labor stands up to management. A popular music hall then closes its doors, and three of the friends who work there, Germain Pigoil, Émile Leibovich, known as Milou, and Jacky Jacquet, are left without work. They plan a show of their own, hoping a hit will save the hall. If their gamble pays off, the money would buy them the theater and let them control their own destinies.
