Plot summary
Sara is a single mother and a novelist, living in a mixed Baghdad neighborhood in 2006. Around her, ordinary people go on with their everyday lives even as unpredictable violence threatens the area. Sara's best friend is Sabiha, her Christian neighbor, and when Sabiha is forced into exile, Sara witnesses it. The exile gives Sara back her will to write. She is one of several people whose stories cross in the neighborhood.
