Plot summary
For three years, ISIS held Mosul, the Iraqi city where Kawa served as a police officer. The unit that fought the occupiers without pause was Nineveh province's SWAT team, drawn from local men who had been injured or had lost family members to ISIS. During a gunfight, Kawa, 21 and a Feyli Kurd, loses his uncle, and the SWAT team rescues him and the other stranded officers. Their commander, Major Jasem, invites him to join a group reduced to about a dozen men, three Humvees and a surplus of cigarettes. Kawa accepts, and no one will tell him what the team's mission is.
