Plot summary
Lori Brandon, a housewife in Los Angeles, has a stillbirth, and her husband Frank takes an advertising job with a toy company in Lilith, a small town in northern California. Driving there, the couple pass a car that swerves off an embankment, and later their own car runs out of gasoline. Frank walks on for help, and Lori, waiting alone, finds a gravestone under a tree in a field, where she sees a funeral for a boy. In Lilith they dine with Frank's new employer, the eccentric Mr. Cato, who says the position has to do with magic and hands Lori a grimoire. Cato owns every business in town, and he tells Lori that he has long pursued the power to raise the dead and that she may hold the key to it.

- While Necromancy was in postproduction in the summer of 1971, director Bert I. Gordon and Valiant Productions sued the film's production company, Premiere Pictures, to regain creative control. A judge gave Gordon 21 days to cut a version matching his original vision, which Premiere then could not alter.
