Plot summary
Tony works as a lawyer, and a skiing accident that hurts her knee puts her in a seaside rehabilitation clinic, where the recovery gives her time to recall her marriage to Georgio Milevski. The two had crossed paths before, when she waited tables to pay for law school and he flicked water at women as a way of flirting. One evening she is at a club with her brother and his girlfriend and spots him again; he invites the group back to his house, and the restaurateur's way of living impresses her. For their next outing he takes her, unannounced, to a wedding where he serves as best man, and the two begin seeing each other. Georgio then declares that he is ready and wants a child with her.

- Maïwenn spent years writing Mon Roi's script, loosely basing it on her relationship with real estate developer Jean-Yves Le Fur. The character Agnès was based on model Karen Mulder, Le Fur's former fiancé, who attempted suicide in 2002.
- Maïwenn wrote the role of Tony specifically with Emmanuelle Bercot in mind. Her first choice for Georgio was Vincent Cassel, but at their first meeting he was so negative about the script that she thought he was passing on the part.
