Margaret Wilson lives in a small all-black community in rural Oklahoma, where two men court her. Buster Barnett is sincere and poor; Prince Alihabad performs as a stage mentalist. Emma Wilson objects to her daughter's interest in Alihabad. Dan Wilson, Margaret's father, has set aside a deed to oil land in the East Texas field as her wedding present, and Alihabad's interest in that property goes beyond passing.
