Plot summary
Andrés Bravo sings and plays guitar in Los Pijamistas, an alternative rock band. A lonely young man, he dreams of becoming a musician. When his bandmates agree to play the Suena Caracas 2016 festival, a government propaganda event organized by the Nicolás Maduro regime, his patience reaches a limit and he leaves the group. He starts a solo project from scratch, writing and performing on his own. Venezuela's crisis brings exile, hyperinflation and power outages, and an alienated environment surrounds him. The Beasts, two masked and mysterious beings, stay at his side along the way. The story is set in 2016.

- Shooting for Me & the Beasts began in 2017 and had to adapt to Venezuela's crisis, including protests, hyperinflation and migration. With limited resources, Nico Manzano decided to shoot with few shots, possibly around one hundred, and about eighty-seven were used.
- Nico Manzano met lead actor Jesús Nunes after attending the play Se hunde el barco, written and directed by Fernando Azpúrua and Oswaldo Maccio, where Nunes was a main character. Nunes, not a musician, was tutored for several months by the director's brother, Max Manzano, to learn the guitar.
- Me & the Beasts won three of the six post-production awards granted by Ventana Sur 2020, and the film was completed thanks to those awards.
- The idea for Me & the Beasts came from a sound director Nico Manzano found while producing the musical album The River with Nika Kvaratskhelia; that sound defined the aesthetic of the band he played with in Barcelona, Spain, between 2011 and 2013.
- Two songs from the film were composed before Manzano returned to Venezuela in 2013, without knowing they would be included in a feature film; the album he was working on was left unfinished halfway through.
