Plot summary
Since 1931, All India Radio has broadcast Mahisasuramardini on the eve of Mahalaya, with Birendra Krishna Bhadra as its narrator and Pankaj Mullick as the composer of its music. It has gone out every year on that occasion without a break and ranks among Bengali radio's most popular programs. In 1976, All India Radio decides to replace Bhadra and revamp the broadcast. The new program, Durga Durgatiharini, has Uttam Kumar, a Bengali film actor, as its narrator, and Hemanta Mukherjee as its composer. Bhadra, the voice of the older recording, is left out of it. Station officials in the events include Shashi Sinha, a former secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Harold Stevenson, a former director-general of Akashbani in Kolkata.
