Plot summary
Honey Harlow, who stripped as Hot Honey, looks back on her years with the comic Lenny Bruce. She first notices him watching her in a Baltimore cafeteria in the early 1950s, while he is still an impersonator, and he follows her to Miami. Lenny's manager, Artie Silver, warns that she served time as a teenager and will bring trouble, but Lenny marries her anyway and brings her home to his mother, Sally Marr, and Aunt Mema. In Los Angeles the marriage slides into the drug culture of show business; Honey goes back to stripping and Lenny takes small gigs. Strip clubs let him say what he likes, and Artie and Sally press him to play colleges and political halls, where audiences take to his irreverence. In San Francisco, police arrest him over a word he uses on stage.
