Plot summary
Fikret, once a sailor, finds it hard to adjust to life in Istanbul, and he has taken to using the facilities of a neighborhood church. With the priest Artin away in the Vatican, Fikret sells the church's cellar of costly wines and spends his nights in the priest's room. The rest of his time goes to betting on horse races and to lecturing Asim, a naïve boy at the car wash beside the church who treats him as a father figure. The pair learn of Deniz, a wealthy widowed businesswoman convinced that a spell has been placed on her sister Selen; she will pay whatever it takes to have it removed. Fikret sets out for Deniz's house posing as a priest.
