Plot summary
In a rural town full of violent delinquents, Jack is fifteen. His mother is oblivious to what goes on around her, and his father is not there. Jack is feuding with a cruel older bully, and another bout of summer school is ahead of him. Then his aunt falls ill, and her son Ben, Jack's younger cousin, needs somewhere to stay for the weekend. Ben is small and quiet, and looking after him is the last thing Jack wants. No one asks Jack what he wants.
