Plot summary
Alexandria, Egypt, in 1940, under the reign of King Farouk and the British occupation, in the years before the 1952 revolution. General Youssef al-Masri is an Egyptian police officer serving in the Karmouz neighborhood of the city. Three young Egyptians step in when three British soldiers attack a woman, and one of the three is arrested and jailed. The military then encircles the police station and launches a full assault on it. Youssef al-Masri is the officer left to defend the prison and to protect the people around him.
