Plot summary
Tommy Collins is an erotic dancer without work, living in his mother's trailer with his chihuahua Peanut. His mother and her boyfriend Jed plan to marry in Las Vegas and tow the mobile home along. He digs his discarded jury summons out of the trash and reports for duty, since jurors get free lodging and five dollars a day. He is seated on the murder case of Carl Wayne Bishop, a fired fast-food worker accused of killing coworkers; witnesses say Bishop threatened them. Sequestered at the Holiday Suite while part of the hotel is being remodeled, Tommy shares a room with Beasely, his former high school principal, who plays motivational tapes at night. The hotel manager, Russell Cadbury, offers him a luxury suite in exchange for advertising the business on news broadcasts.
