Plot summary
In Seoul in 2008, South Korea holds its first trial with citizen participation, and eight people from ordinary backgrounds are selected at random to serve as jurors. The case has drawn widespread public attention. It involves a matricide that appears all but resolved, supported by evidence, testimony from witnesses and a confession, so the sentence looks like the only question remaining. Presiding Judge Kim Joon-gyeom, who adheres strictly to principle, tries to keep the proceedings efficient and by the book. As the trial goes on, the jurors' questions and challenges, especially those of Juror No. 8, Kwon Nam-woo, begin to influence its course.
