Plot summary
Mai Shono works at a hotel and is looking for Yui, her younger sister, a schoolteacher who disappeared. Visions of Yui and a voicemail carrying Kayako's death rattle reach her, and Yui's belongings arrive with a book holding an address. The Saeki house at that address has been torn down, and Kyosuke Takeda bars anyone from building on the plot. Elsewhere, high schooler Reo Hasegawa lives with Maki, her single mother, and the two take in a young cousin who lost his parents and does not speak. Reo's friends Midori and Madoka meet the boy, and at a karaoke booth Midori is frightened by him. Mai's boyfriend Sota Kitamura, a train station guard, questions Ena, a psychic girl who has been recording the boy's activities.
