Plot summary
Retelling the events of the four Gospels, the story follows Jesus, a carpenter, and the people around him: his mother Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Martha of Bethany and Mary of Bethany. Jesus shows his feelings openly; he throws stones into Lake Galilee when he meets Simon Peter and James son of Zebedee, dances at the wedding at Cana and starts a water fight with his disciples. The telling adds scenes not found in the Gospels, among them a flashback to his first journey to Jerusalem with John, and images of war and destruction carried out in his name in medieval and modern times. Satan appears as a man and as a woman in red. Livio, a Roman historian, watches events and comments on them.
