Trailer

Plot summary

Frank Davis works in public relations in Los Angeles, and he and his wife Lenore have a young son, Chris. Lenore took contraceptive pills for years before the couple decided to try for a second child. When her labor starts, Chris stays with a friend of the family and the Davises drive to the hospital. Lenore says this labor feels harder than her first. At the hospital she tells the staff something is wrong. Frank, waiting in the hallway, sees a nurse covered in blood stagger out and fall. The baby, a boy with fangs and claws, has killed the delivery room staff and fled, and Lenore, alive, wants to know what her son looks like.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about It's Alive (1974)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Larry Cohen phoned Rick Baker while Baker was at Dick Smith's home working on The Exorcist, pitching the film's concept and suggesting the baby suit be worn by Cohen's cat or "a chicken or something [...] maybe two chickens!" Baker designed and created the film's murderous baby.
  • After deciding to rarely show the infant, Cohen asked Baker to create a "dummy baby" for actors to react to. Baker built it with an aluminum wire armature for articulated limbs and adjustable eyeballs, and made a full-head mutant mask, gloves, and partial body suit worn by his then-girlfriend and later wife.
