Plot summary
Davey Graham, a small-time London thief, sells drugs to a woman named Stella at a party. After he leaves, men follow him through London. At dawn he stumbles home and draws a bath. Hours later his friend Mickser finds him dead in it. Mickser asks Helen how to reach Will, Davey's brother, who left London three years ago. Will has been working as a forester, living in a van, and is sacked for having no papers. He heads for a ferry out of England, sees Davey at the terminal and turns back to London, where he learns of the death. His return unsettles crime boss Frank Turner, who wants him gone, and his old gang urges him to come back. Will visits Helen to apologize for leaving her.
