Plot summary
Several American mothers take on Backpage.com, the classified advertising site where their middle-school daughters were advertised for sex. The film follows the families of middle-school girls in Boston, a 15-year-old in Seattle and a 13-year-old in St. Louis as the women sue the site, arguing that its business and editorial practices and its design helped traffickers sell underage girls. Their cases run into Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which federal judges have read as protecting websites from any responsibility for ads posted by users. The documentary also tracks congressional efforts to curb Backpage and online trafficking, and the advocates, lawyers and child welfare experts working alongside the families.
