Plot summary
People driven from their homes by war, famine and climate change number more than 65 million, the largest displacement since the Second World War. Over the course of a year the film moves through 23 countries, among them Afghanistan, France, Greece, Germany and Iraq. It records refugees crossing borders and living in camps such as Idomeni in Greece, the Calais Jungle in France and Dadaab in Kenya, where many have few rights and resources. Several describe dangerous voyages, their fears and their grief, while experts, United Nations officials and dignitaries speak about shared responsibility and the hesitation of wealthier nations to help. The film also sets out why people flee, including wars between states, ethnic conflicts and repression.
