Plot summary

Francis is a young gay man and Marie a young straight woman, and the two are best friends in Montreal. They first meet Nicolas at a dinner party, and when they run into him again at a coffee shop both pretend not to be interested. Over the following weeks the three become close, meeting regularly and even sleeping in the same bed, though it is clear that Francis and Marie each want more from Nicolas than friendship. Their friendship turns into a rivalry as each waits to see whom Nicolas will choose, and neither can decipher what he wants. Between scenes, interview segments show people recounting their own romantic disappointments.
