Plot summary

Jillian Shanahan is a deaf athletic trainer in Portland. A client of hers, Mickey O'Malley, has put a stolen rare coin inside her pager, and she does not know it is there. Lt. Brock, a corrupt police officer, arrests Mickey at her apartment and interrogates him in a police car beneath a bridge. What Brock wants is that coin, which he means to keep rather than return. Mickey later goes to a diner run by his friend Ben Kendall and tries calling Jillian, with no answer. Threats begin reaching Jillian, and she still has no idea what she is carrying.
