Plot summary
Lorretta is married to Howard, a Harley-riding criminal, and is sleeping with Lance, who owns the local diner. Howard is starting to suspect. Driving home from one of those nights, Lance watches the Stackpoole family haul a man out of his truck and into their house. He learns why the Stackpooles keep to themselves: the children are quadruplets, each born with one exaggerated faculty, one enormously strong, one with extraordinarily sharp senses, one remarkably attractive, one brilliant. The brilliant one, Myron, is a giant head with hands who sits in a wheelchair, controls his siblings by psychic means, and runs experiments on the brains of neighbors, hunting for a normal body to house his mind. The Stackpooles are rich in oil and coal, and Lance decides the secret he holds is worth money.
