Plot summary
South Orange, New Jersey, 1978. Gracie Bowen, fifteen, loves soccer. Her three brothers and her father, Bryan, a former player, love it too, and Bryan runs the family's nightly practices. Gracie wants to join them. Bryan says girls should not play soccer and that she is not tough or talented enough. Her mother, Lindsay, a nurse, worries about her safety. At Columbia High School her older brother Johnny is captain of the varsity team, and he is the one who does not discourage her.
