Plot summary
The film traces John Kerry from his Navy service in Vietnam to the years when he campaigned to end the war. Men who served beside him on the swift boats describe the duty he sought and the patrols and battle damage the footage records. At home he takes a leading role in Vietnam Veterans Against the War, whose Winter Soldier Investigations and other gatherings appear in period film. His testimony before a Senate committee and the Dewey Canyon III protests in Washington appear too, along with a Mall gathering held in defiance of court orders and marches to Arlington National Cemetery. Interviews with classmates, relatives and fellow veterans appear alongside photographs taken from 1969 onward.
