Plot summary
Lisa, born in Italy, lives in Paris with her husband, Robert Macklin. He is an American, a former Air Force man who now works in business. Lisa is impoverished, and Robert's jealousy and immaturity irk her. He is abusive. She tells him she wants a divorce and will file for one before he leaves on a business trip to Casablanca.
