Plot summary
Meira lives in Montreal's Mile End with her husband Shulem and their young daughter Elishiva, inside a Hasidic community where the rules govern her days; Shulem does not allow secular music at home. When she tells a friend she wants no more children, word of it reaches Shulem, and he berates her for it. Félix is a French Canadian man in the same neighborhood whose father, Théodore, has died after no longer knowing his son. Meira and Félix meet by chance in a local bakery, and she is mystified that a single man his age has no children. She avoids his eyes when they play Ping-Pong, and his sister Caroline arrives and sees her.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Maxime Giroux cast actors in Felix and Meira who had once been Hasidic Jews before giving up that faith and culture, and said shooting some scenes was hard for them because they were close to what they had lived.
- The producers recommended Hadas Yaron for the film, but as she spoke neither French nor Yiddish she had to study both languages, working on Yiddish with Twersky and on French in Israel.
- Felix and Meira was chosen as Canada's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards but was not nominated, and it was a rare Canadian submission for featuring a substantial amount of Yiddish as well as French.
- Casting Yiddish-speaking actors in Montreal was so challenging that Giroux was pointed to Luzer Twersky in New York, where several people said he would be interested.
