Plot summary
Kim Min-jae is a general who has defended the borders of the newly founded Joseon dynasty. He watches Prince Yi Bang-won, the fifth son of King Taejo, believing the prince wants the throne. Yi Bang-won helped his father overthrow Goryeo and establish Joseon, yet Taejo passed him over when naming his successor. Kim Min-jae's son Jin is married to a daughter of the king, and that place at court keeps him out of politics; he gives his time to pleasure instead. Into the general's life comes Ga-hee, a gisaeng he takes as a concubine. She carries a vendetta against him, something he does not know.
