Plot summary
Robin Mihara, a Tetris enthusiast in Oregon, wants to find the strongest Tetris players in the country and stage a competition. A website called Twin Galaxies, which has tracked video game records since the 1980s, leads him to top scorers including Jonas Neubauer and Harry Hong, each of whom has posted a max-out score of 999,999, as well as Ben Mullen, who holds a record for most lines, Dana Wilcox and Jesse Kelkar. Mihara also tries to reconnect with competitors from the 1990 Nintendo World Championships, among them Trey Harrison and Thor Aackerlund, who says he has reached Level 30 and who has rarely been heard from since the 1990s. Aackerlund agrees to take part, and with players such as Matt Buco and Alex Kerr added, eight competitors are set to meet in Los Angeles.
