Dream Girl (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

Karam has been acting since childhood, taking female parts in mythological plays because he can imitate a woman's voice, though he would rather be given a male role. Work is scarce, and his father Jagjit is weighed down by loans he cannot repay. Answering an advertisement for a high salary, Karam is turned away by Mauji, called W-ji, who runs a telephone service staffed by women who entertain male callers. Karam pleads, then answers a call as Pooja, an operator who is often away. W-ji hires him at once and pays him an advance, which Karam hands to Jagjit as wages from a company. As Pooja, Karam attracts regular callers. He meets Mahi, wins her with his talk, and becomes engaged to her, telling only his friend Smiley about the voice he performs.
