Plot summary
In the mountains of Utah, a woman fleeing down a stream is caught and killed by an unseen assailant, and a bird watcher is murdered soon afterward. Four friends, Peter, Joanne, Ingrid and Craig, hike the same wilderness, unaware of what is happening around them. Elsewhere on the slopes a tourist is thrown from a waterfall, landing among a group of revelers, and the man's mother is hurt and carried off. Honeymooners Dick and Cherry are attacked in their van, and Cherry, frightened, takes up a small bust to defend herself. An artist painting at a scenic view is stabbed. The four backpackers make camp for the night while the killer works his way through the visitors.

- Deemed a video nasty in Britain in the 1980s, the film was banned under the Video Recordings Act and could not be rented or bought in the UK until 2007, when it was released uncut on DVD with a 15 certificate.
- Director James Bryan's follow-up to Boogie Vision, a horror film set in the Rocky Mountains, was supposedly based on local rumors about a number of hitchhikers who had reportedly fallen victim to a suspected serial killer.
- The film was shot for $150,000 in the summer of 1980, with outdoor locations chosen partly to save money on the film's lighting.
