Plot summary
Three Detroiters give the documentary its shape: Crystal Starr, a video blogger; Tommy Stephens, who owns a nightclub; and George McGregor, the president of a United Auto Workers local. Filmed around the city in 2010, they talk about their lives, Detroit's problems and its opportunities. Mayor Dave Bing meets with officials and residents to discuss consolidating the population into a smaller area to save money. The film also shows the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly, where the Chevy Volt is built, the defunct Cadillac plant and the abandoned Michigan Central Station, and follows a group of artists, mostly newcomers, among them the performance artists Steve and Dorota Coy. No narration is used; footage of the city is mixed with historical clips and performances at the Detroit Opera House.
