Plot summary
The year is 2003, and Probir Roy Chowdhury, an ill-tempered serial killer expert at Lalbazar, is called to the bathtub death of a promoter, a fearsome don who had killed people to seize their land. The man was cornered at gunpoint and devoured by red-bellied piranhas. A tulsi bead necklace is left at the scene. A month later, a money-lender tied to the sand and coal mafias is bludgeoned with a tortoise idol, and two more tulsi bead necklaces are left behind. Probir reads the deaths as the work of one killer who follows the ten avatars of Vishnu. Commissioner Rajat Basu hands him the case, and the young inspector Bijoy Poddar, drawn to serial killing cases, joins him.
