Plot summary
A jewelry shop burglary sends Special Constable Tom Campbell running to a police box for help, and inside he finds Tardis, the time and space machine built by the inventor Dr. Who. Dr. Who travels with Louise and Susan, and the box takes all four to London in the year 2150. The city lies in ruins. Daleks have invaded Earth; prisoners they take become brainwashed Robomen servants or are put to work in a Bedfordshire mine. Survivors who escaped live as resistance fighters. A rebel named Wyler brings Louise and Susan to a base in a London Underground station, where fighters including David and a man named Dortmun prepare an attack on the Dalek spaceship.

- Amicus bought the option to make three Dalek-related stories from Terry Nation and the BBC for just £500, and the planned third film, based on the serial The Chase, was scrapped after this film under-performed at the box office.
- Shooting was hit by accidents: a Dalek prop caught fire as rebels stormed the Dalek spaceship, stuntman Eddie Powell broke his ankle filming his character's death, and Andrew Keir hurt his wrist punching through a van windscreen.
- Peter Cushing's illness during production forced the script to be rewritten so that his on-screen appearances as Dr. Who were reduced.
- Of the film's £286,000 budget, over £50,000 went on promotion, and the breakfast cereal Sugar Puffs sponsored it: its signs and products appear in the film, and the company ran a competition to win a Dalek prop.
- This film marks the first time the Daleks used "rels" as a unit of time; the term went on to be used in comics and later in the revived Doctor Who series.
