- Some Gyermekvasút vehicles were given red stars for the filming, and the stars were only taken off the locomotives after the last scene was shot, so for weeks these locomotives went into passenger service still bearing red stars, to the passengers' great surprise.
- Nagy Ervin wove his own childhood into the film: he often watched the Polish series A négy páncélos és a kutya with his grandfather, who ritually awarded the young Ervin a "Kiváló dolgozó" badge at the end of every episode, and one scene shares this experience with viewers.
- The crew stuck closely to period facts: they rebuilt Kádár János's study from original photographs, made his film wardrobe using photos of him, and even found a Mercedes like his 1970s official car; they also wrote in his confidante and interpreter Barta Istvánné Nádja, played by Balsai Móni.
