Plot summary
Three generations of Hungarian men carry the story. At a remote military outpost, the orderly Vendel Morosgoványi does menial work for lieutenant Öreg Balatony Kálmán and his family and sleeps in an unheated shack beside the latrines, slipping away into vivid sexual fantasies. The other two are a champion speed-eater and a taxidermist. One man wants love, another wants success, and the third wants immortality.
