Plot summary
Kallio, the working-class district of Helsinki where fifteen men who all answer to the name Frank live, has worn them down, and they have decided to leave it. Joining them is Pekka, an English speaker who comes into their company at a bar. The destination they agree on is Eira, the borough on the seafront, which they picture as a better existence. Reaching it means a journey by night, through back alleys and the metro's tunnels, past stray dogs and streetlights that no longer work. The men keep their surnames to themselves as they go, so that the forces standing in their path have nothing to work with.
