Plot summary
Two stories unfold about forty years apart. In 1960s Paris, Jacqueline works as a hairdresser and raises Laurent, her son with Down syndrome, alone after her husband abandons the family. She is set on giving him an ordinary childhood, and he finds a companion in Véronique, a classmate who also has Down syndrome. In present-day Montreal, Antoine Godin, a successful touring DJ and father of two daughters, loves Rose. Carole, his ex-wife and the girls' mother, is trying to restart her life two years after their divorce, which followed twenty years together. Antoine's father, who is recovering from alcoholism, sides with Carole, and Rose feels threatened by the hold the former couple still has on each other.
