Plot summary
California Democratic Senator Jay Billington Bulworth is running for re-election against a fiery young populist, and years of conceding to conservative politics and corporate donations have left him disillusioned. He and his wife keep up a happy public facade, each aware of the other's affairs. He takes out a $10 million policy on his own life, naming his daughter as the beneficiary, and because a suicide would void the payout, he arranges to be killed within two days. He arrives at a Los Angeles campaign event drunk, with a C-SPAN crew filming, and says what he actually thinks. He dances all night, smokes marijuana, begins rhyming in public, and becomes a media favorite. He grows close to Nina, a young Black activist who joins him on campaign stops.
