Plot summary
The documentary follows two young men, Shane Bitney Crone and Tom Bridegroom, through six years of their relationship. When same-sex marriage becomes legal in California, they plan to wed. In 2011, Tom dies after an accidental fall from the roof of an apartment building in Los Angeles, and because the two are not married, Shane has no legal protection. Tom's family will not let him attend the funeral. The film draws on interviews with Shane's family and the friends they share, and follows what Shane faces after Tom's death. It grows out of a video tribute he posts on YouTube a year after Tom dies, which draws more than three million views.
