Plot summary
Dignan shows his friend Anthony a plan he has drawn up to cover 75 years, and collects him from the psychiatric unit where Anthony has been treated. The plan pairs a series of robberies with a meeting with Mr. Henry, a landscaper who also works as a criminal. As practice, Dignan and Anthony break into Anthony's family's home and carry off the items Dignan listed, though Dignan also pockets a pair of earrings Anthony had bought for his mother and left off the list. Bob Mapplethorpe signs on as getaway driver, the only one among them with a car. The three buy a gun and plan a robbery at a bookstore. Afterward they go on the lam and stop at a motel, where Anthony meets Inez, a housekeeper from Paraguay, and a romance begins across the language barrier.
