Plot summary
Briar and Bramble, two bear brothers, grow up in a forest where the old story of the spirit of winter is told: an antlered creature, polar bear-like, who arrives with the snow and the cold. Bramble names her Neva. As a cub he caught sight of her once, and Briar has never believed a word of it. Now grown, the brothers meet the spirit for themselves when she brings the winter to the woods. Winged people attack her, and she needs the bears' help to get away. Strangers reach the forest too, hunting the mysterious creature, and the woods are thrown into turmoil.
