Plot summary
At a drive-in theater in 1974, Maddy sits in a car with her date while her twin sons, Terry and Todd, slip outside. A man is killed near the cars, and the blame falls on the brother who is too shocked to speak for himself. He is committed to an asylum. Ten years later, Terry lives with Maddy at Shadow Woods, the apartment complex her boyfriend Brad owns, and has a girlfriend, Karen. On Thanksgiving, Maddy announces her engagement to Brad, and word reaches the family that the asylum patient has escaped. Dr. Berman, his psychiatrist, arrives with her assistant Jackie to search the grounds.

- Blood Rage's shoot was rocky: star Louise Lasser and director John Grissmer did not get along on set, and according to producer Marianne Kanter, Grissmer quit in the middle of filming before she persuaded him to return.
- Producer Marianne Kanter played Dr. Berman only because the actress hired from New York for the role never showed up, she said.
- The film's 1987 theatrical release, retitled Nightmare at Shadow Woods, was a censored cut that truncated a considerable amount of its gore special effects.
