Plot summary

Damien is seventeen and a strong student at the high school in his small town in the Hautes-Pyrénées. His mother Marianne works as a doctor there, and his father Nathan, a military pilot, is abroad on a mission. Thomas, a classmate, trips him during class, and the two trade blows in the schoolyard and at sports, where both are picked last. For protection, Damien takes self-defense lessons from Paulo, a former military man and a friend of the family. Thomas is the adopted son of sheep and cattle farmers, and his trip to school takes 90 minutes. When his mother Christine is hospitalized with a pulmonary infection while pregnant, Marianne offers to take Thomas in so he can visit her and study. Nathan, home on leave, repeats the invitation, and Thomas accepts reluctantly.
