Plot summary
On the advice of Joe King, a burlesque clown who courts her, Kitty Darling places her young daughter April in a convent so the girl will grow up away from the stage. Years pass and Kitty's career fades. She drinks and lives in the past, sharing her home with Hitch, a burlesque comic who cheats on her and spends what little money she has left. When Hitch learns how long she has paid for April's schooling, he presses her to bring the girl home. Kitty, ashamed of her own state, weds Hitch so her daughter will not have to feel disgraced by her. April comes home.
