Ann Carver's Profession (1933) on Netflix

Plot summary

Ann Carver and Bill Graham meet at Hampden University, where Bill is a football star, and marry after she passes her bar exam. Ann takes a job with retired Judge Bingham's law firm while Bill works as a draftsman in an architectural office. Her first big case brings a five-thousand-dollar fee and national attention as a lawyer, but Bill's reward at his own office is a ten-dollar raise. As Ann's income and fame grow, Bill resents the disparity, and the couple talk about the strain on their marriage. Bill quits his architectural job and takes work as a singer at the Mirador, a friend's nightclub, where the singer Carole Rodgers takes an interest in him.
